To prepare mehendi paste through a natural process we will need the following Ingredients —
- Dried Mehendi Leaves
- Water
- Coffee
- Lemon Oil
- Clover Oil
- Eucalyptus Oil
- Sugar Syrup
- Tamarind Paste
A Process to make Mehendi Paste:
Wash the bunch of mehndi leaves and let them dry in the sunlight. When the leaves are dry and become crisp, grind them into very fine powder. We suggest using a grindstone to make the paste. Grind the leaves on the stone, sprinkle water to make the grinding a lot easier. Strain the powder through a muslin cloth a couple of times to get pure powder form (sieve this powder twice or thrice so that no big piece remains in the powder).
Since we are using the traditional method hence this process may be a little time consuming and tiring, but the texture and the feel of the mehendi will be a lot different in the latter. If you are buying mehndi powder from the market then make sure that they have a greenish-brown tint.
- Take a plastic, glass or ceramic container and put the desired amount of mehndi powder in it. Mix one part of lemon juice (lemon juice help in releasing the dye in the mehendi paste) with three parts of water. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar (as it prevents the mehendi designs from cracking while being applied) and some drops of essential oil (for a silky finish) and stir well till the whole sugar dissolves in water. You can also mix tea or tamarind paste in it.

- Boil coffee in water until it becomes very dark and smells simply divine. Add this coffee to the mehendi paste and mix well.
- Keep repeating step 4 until a smooth paste is formed whose consistency should be smooth and creamy. Now cover the container with a plastic wrap and keep it overnight or for 6-7 hours and sure there are no air gaps or bubbles in the paste.
- After 6-7 hours, scoop out the mixture from the container and fill it in the plastic cone (cones are available in the Indian market also) or any other applicator you are using.
Your own mehndi paste is ready to be used, and you can be certain it is pure and safe. Start designing!
